NDRI conducts various projects related to interdisciplinary research and development. The projects can be grouped in four major areas as follows: Research on various issues; research projects are either initiated by NDRI itself or requested by other organizations. Consultancy services on various research and development works. Training and academic activities to help develop the human resources in various fields. Implementation of development activities in order to strengthen the knowledge base gained from such experiences.

1.Support for Strengthening Climate Finance Activities in Nepal

Description :

Description :
The overall objective of this project is to reduce the risk of sexual exploitation and trafficking of women in the entertainment sector in Nepal through its empowerment and support activities.To measure the impact of these interventions against the project indicators, this impact study is carried out and will evaluate the quality of services provided to the targeted women, measuring their behavior/attitude change after receiving services through project interventions.


4.Community Perception Surveys for Inter Agency Common Feedback Project, UNRCO Nepal

Description :
The project aims to collect perceptions of earthquake affected people across 14 affected districts. These surveys will focus on perceptions related to services, people sense of agency, outcome and quality of relations between aid providers and the affected populations.Thematic perception will capture community feedback across critical themes; i) Reconstruction, ii) Food Security and Livelihood, iii) Protection.


5.National Assessment on Gender Equality and Knowledge Society

Description :
This study is formulated to undertake national assessment of the status of women in national knowledge societies, with focus on their representation in science, technology and innovation (STI) systems. The overall objective of this research study is to create integrated database of women’s representation in various sectors such as health, social, economic, agriculture,opportunity and capabilities.


6.Community Based-Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood illness (CB-IMNCI) Programme Assessment

Description :
This project aims to identify the gaps in the service, draw lessons and bring necessary modifications in the CB-IMNCI program (phases) in 6 project districts (Taplejung, Sindhupalchowk, Baitadi, Syangja, Nawalparsi, Saptari). The overall objectives of the project is to assess situation of service readiness in the health facilities for IMNCI services particularly focusing on sick young infants, to assess knowledge and skills of service providers for management of sick young infants, to assess volume of service provided to sick young infants and children aged 2-59 months in the last 3 months and explore reasons for low or no service offered by health facilities and reasons for reluctant to service delivery and to explore quality of service provided to the clients in terms of prescription of appropriate drugs, appropriate dosing, follow-up visits by clients, referral, clients compliance etc.


7.Baseline Study for Improved GBV Prevention and Response in selected Districts of Nepal

Description :
The project aims to improve the capacity on four districts (Bajhang, Baitadi, Achham and Bajura) for providing a competent response to Gender Based Violence, including health and clinical services, professional referral to and from police, and shelter support including psychosocial counselling; to broadcast culturally appropriate radio messages regarding GBV, focused on an audience of men and boys, and to develop the capacity of local journalists and media organizations to report on GBV issues.

Description :
The main purpose of this project is to assess the recovery status, government response to citizen needs and the satisfaction level of citizen with service delivery of local government bodies in six highly affected districts from earthquake of April/May 2015 i.e. Gorkha and Lamjung of Western Development Region; and Dhading, Makwanpur, Dolakha and Ramechhap of Central Development Region.. The output gained from this research is expected to support the evidence based interventions in the affected districts through its strategic governance approaches.

This project was conducted in Koshi River Basin, where climate change impact assessment was carried out to develop better understanding of impact of climate change and related stressors on the snowmelt process of mountains, rain-dominated hydrology of the hills and flood inundation pattern using hydrological and hydraulic models (SRM, SWAT, Hec-RAS). Moreover, for flood risk assessment, vulnerability assessment survey was conducted in sampled VDCs of Koshi basin to assess the demographic, economic, social, preparedness and recovery status of the people. Integrating social and technical component, a composite risk maps were prepared for existing historic and climate change conditions. Furthermore, review and gap analysis of existing policies and strategies was conducted and recommendations were provided on climate change adaption policies and strategies.

The project was designed for mapping the slum areas and surveying the conditions of food insecurity and market prices in the urban slums of Kathmandu. For the implementation of the project, a spatial dataset through mapping satellite imagery of slum areas to represent patterns of growth of urban slums in Kathmandu was developed.

Description :
The study of "Karnali Employment Programme (KEP) " was conducted by NDRI in partnership with World Food Programme (WFP) Nepal for International Labour Organization, Nepal. The study was conducted in order to derive lessons for future social protection and employment generation initiatives in Nepal. The study included a survey among 300 households, focus group discussions (FGDs), and VDC level interviews in 3 selected districts namely Humla, Jumla and Kalikot from Karnali Zone. Duly completed household survey questionnaires, digital files of the household questionnaires' data entered using WFP web-based input facility and summary reports on FGDs and of the basic VDC information/operation of KEP were the major outputs of the study.

The main objective of this project was to identify sub-catchments, delineate catchments boundaries and river network in digital format of the Karnali River basin, conduct rapid assessment on selected catchments and enhance CWN and its partners' capacity on these aspects. The main activities carried out under the project were review of documents, consultation & sharing, collection of the documents, debriefing, set up digital information system, training/orientation, and report preparation.
